Connecting the Dots

Software.org Launches Toolkits to Support Presidential AI Challenge

Fostering an AI-ready workforce helps to ensure that workers and employers alike in every industry can take advantage of artificial intelligence (AI) and its benefits.

BSA and Software.org: the BSA Foundation work to promote those goals by working on expanding access to AI education and skills development and empowering students to imagine, design, and share responsible AI solutions that benefit their communities.

Software.org and the Presidential AI Challenge

As the United States continues to adopt AI, it is essential that the next generation is equipped with the knowledge and tools to engage with technology productively and creatively. The Presidential AI Challenge invites youth nationwide to explore how AI can be used to solve real-world problems.

To support this effort, Software.org has developed two toolkits to help youth-focused nonprofits and companies support the challenge:

  • The “Presidential AI Challenge Toolkit for Nonprofits” helps nonprofit organizations leverage existing networks and programs to inspire and engage students by providing suggestions such as recruiting and organizing student teams, hosting workshops or “Challenge Days,” and connecting with volunteer mentors.
  • The “Presidential AI Challenge Toolkit for Companies” encourages companies to support youth participation in the challenge by engaging nonprofit partners in new ways to promote participation in the challenge, mentoring student teams, serving as judges or reviewers, and sponsoring youth teams in local communities across the country.

BSA and Software.org’s Commitment to Building AI Skills

BSA, along with 15 of its member companies, signed the White House’s “Pledge to America’s Youth: Investing in AI Education.” The pledge builds on an April 23 executive order that aims to prepare students and teachers to thrive in an AI-driven economy. It encourages the delivery of resources such as funding and grants, educational materials and curricula, technology and tools, teacher professional development programs, workforce development resources, and access to technical expertise and mentorship.

By taking this pledge, BSA committed to making AI education accessible for K–12 students nationwide. It also builds on work by BSA and Software.org to engage hundreds of students across the country to connect them with mentoring resources and career pathway opportunities in technology and other AI-enabled industries.

BSA and Software.org’s continued support for the Presidential AI Challenge reflects this commitment and aligns with the White House’s broader goals to expand STEM education, foster innovation, and strengthen the future AI workforce.
