Transforming the Texas Economy: Fueling Job Growth with Software Skills

On May 30, Software.org sponsored an event in San Antonio to celebrate the economic impact of software in Texas and discuss ways to build software skills and the workforce. Congressman Will Hurd keynoted the event and spoke about the importance of workforce development – especially the cybersecurity workforce. Hurd also discussed the future of AI and the importance of policy to protect critical infrastructure. Next, a panel discussed the technology education and workforce landscape in Texas from the business, entrepreneurial, educational, and nonprofit perspectives. The panel included Dr. Bruce Leslie from Alamo Colleges, Will Garrett from San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, Ashley Phillips from Impact Hub Austin, and Michael Girdley from Geekdom Fund San Antonio Start-Up Investor.
