Software.org: the BSA Foundation is proud to partner for its 11th consecutive year with Girls Who Code for the 2025 Summer Immersion Program (SIP). This program addresses the gender gap in STEM by bringing together young women from high schools nationwide to learn coding in virtual classrooms led by mentors from industry-leading companies.
During the two-week SIP, Girls Who Code instructors will primarily focus on teaching the basics of web development through interactive lessons and projects. Students will delve into Game Design, covering beginner and intermediate computer science concepts such as UX design basics, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for web development. In addition to coding, students will engage in mentorship workshops, explore career opportunities in STEM through interactions with women in the software industry, and meet with members of Congress and other high-ranking government officials.

Savannah Frederiksen

My name is Savannah Frederiksen (she/her), and I am a rising junior at Tufts University majoring in Human Factors Engineering. I am from Dallas, Texas, and currently living in Boston, Massachusetts. This is my second year teaching at SIP, but my first as a Lead TA! I have been involved with SIP for five years now, since doing SIP as a student in 2021. Outside of Girls Who Code, I also coach rowing! I love to row and am a member of the Tufts Varsity Rowing Team. I also love to read, listen to music, and talk to friends! I am very excited to be back for another summer at Girls Who Code and meet all the students!
Arya Nalavade

My name is Arya Nalavade (she/her) and I just graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University in Biomedical Engineering. I am now pursuing my masters at Georgia Tech in Bioinformatics. This is my third summer with Girls Who Code, and I’m so excited to be part of the Summer Immersion Program once again! Outside of teaching, I love dancing, singing, working out, and reading. I’m really looking forward to connecting with students and watching them grow their confidence and skills over the next two weeks!

My name is Marie Flessa (she/her) and I am a rising sophomore at the University of Washington majoring in engineering. This is my first year as a TA for SIP, but I participated as a student in 2021! In my free time, I love spending time outdoors, running, and baking. I’m so excited to take part in such a great program again!
